Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

Once again Johnny Depp and Tim Burton team up to make yet another successful blockbuster, Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.

Depp, plays a man (Todd) who was sent to prison and returns to reek havoc among the people of London.

With revenge in mind, Sweeney Todd procedes to quietly butcher the town folk with his cut throat razor, tipping them down a shaft and serving them up in the form of a pie, with the aid of his accomplice, Mrs Lovitt, played by Helena Bonham Carter.

The film is based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim therefore a lot of the film is told in song. The picture is very dark almost black and white, generating a very dark feel around the film itself.

Sweeney Todd won a Golden Globe for Best Picture and Depp himself was nominated for an Oscar for best Actor. Other actors include Alan Rickman, as the judge who intially jailed Sweeney Todd, Timothy Spall, as the judge's evil side-kick, and Sacha Baron Cohen as another London Barber.

The DVD is apparantly out on April 1st, but I think this must be for the US only. I believe it comes out on the 19th May in the UK.
